Adoption knowledge is not intuitive, so everyone is learning together. Adoption is a field in which continuing education is vital, both for adoption professionals and adoptive families. We are up to date on all of the latest research and theories so that we can provide you with the best information out there.

We’ve learned from experience that you will get the most out of your education if you sit down with us and other families face to face. So come and be a part of stimulating conversation with other families and get the most of your educators by getting to ask your questions in person, in real time. Here are some of the classes we offer.

Attachment in Adoption Seminar

This one is a must. We will teach you when to talk adoption, how to talk adoption and how to maintain your privacy respectfully when you don’t feel like talking about it. We will show you some of our favorite children’s books that will help you child understand that there are different ways to make a family and there are so many adoptive families just like theirs. We will also give you very important tools to teach your children how to share their story.

Trans-racial Adoption Seminar

This class if free to ADOPT clients, or $25 per couple for non clients. This class is a requirement for Home Study clients that are approved to adopt a child of a different ethnic background than their own. Since space is limited, please call (415) 934-0300 to reserve a seat.

For those of you who are just starting out, we offer several different ways to learn the different types of adoptions, the basics of the home study process and a start on how to decide between domestic and international adoption.

Information Night

This is a monthly 1.5 hour seminar we hold at our office, usually on Tuesday’s from 6-7:30pm. Space is limited so please RSVP to save your spot. We are fortunate to have free parking available for our clients as well: enter the lot from 9th street and walk around to the front of the building to sign in as a visitor. No more parking-meter frenzy!

Free Individual Consults

Once you’ve done some research and are ready for some one on one attention, just give us a call to schedule your one on one consult with the specialist of the program you are most interested in. It’s important to ‘click,’ with your agency representative. This is an emotional journey and you should feel like you have the right person in your court, supporting you and guiding you step by step.

Referrals to Online Resources

If ever you need an answer to a question we may not know, we are more than happy to refer to the specialist that can give you the answers you need. Likewise, if you are interested in a program we do not offer, we will give you the resources to find the right adoption professional.

Kid Groups

Adopt LOVES to get our kids together and teach them how to be proud that they are adopted, talk about their birth parents and learn great ways to share their stories with teachers, peers and family, not to mention meet and befriend other AI adoptees! We can’t tell you how much fun we have (we’re pretty sure the kids like it too). If you want your child to be a part of this, please let us know, since this class is only available when there are enough interested families.
