Domestic Adoption Services
Adopt is a private, non-profit agency licensed by the State of California
since 1983 and the State of Hawaii since 1993. We provide Home
Study services and facilitate domestic adoptions for families residing
in these two states. An agency adoption requires a
Home Study be completed prior to the relinquishment and placement. As
an educational agency, we conduct Home Studies with respect and openness,
and work with traditional and nontraditional families.
We assist you in finding a baby. Most of our families find
babies through our network, which include: doctors, nurses, clinics,
counselors, teen pregnancy programs, agencies and attorneys. Families
make picture books to introduce themselves to a birth parent(s)
considering adoption. Our program also involves families
completing a mass mailing of their outreach letters to 3,000 doctors
and clinics. In addition, we will guide you in using your
personal network.
Once you are matched we will coordinate with the doctor,
hospital, birth father, and other agency, if necessary. We
will also help you to establish and agreement about continuing
contact post adoption. We support open adoption and believe
that it is the right of every child to know about his or her history.
Birth parents sign a relinquishment, which, in general, is
legally binding within several days or weeks, depending on the state
in which she lives.
