Hello. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We know that choosing adoption must involve many strong feelings and tough decisions. We can only imagine what it must feel like to make such a big decision about your baby’s future. We are committed to the philosophy of open adoption and together will help your child understand that your decision was made out of love.
We are committed to each other and to being parents. We are eager to welcome a child into our family and feel emotionally, financially and spiritually ready to put our child first and to provide love, warmth, humor, and guidance.
The two of us met and fell in love 16 years ago and have been together ever since. We have lived in several intriguing places including Oregon, Georgia, Arizona and North Carolina and are happy to call Hawaii home. What’s been fascinating is finding our way in really different cultures – even within the United States. We have also loved experiencing and working on creative projects in other countries like Japan, Cambodia, the Philippines and Mexico and one day hope to share these kinds of experiences with our child.
We’ve settled in Hawaii because we thought it would be a great place to raise a child. It’s diverse and open and there are lots of different kinds of people with different kinds of family. It’s naturally beautiful. We are reminded every single day by a rainbow, dramatic mountains, or turquoise waters of how lucky we are to be alive. We love hiking and snorkeling and look forward to sharing our love of Hawaii with our child and birth family.
Our house looks out on the mountains, has fruit trees and a vegetable garden and is within walking distance of a beautiful beach where we swim daily along with lots of other families. The neighborhood is old style where we exchange papayas for mangos with our neighbors. We have a cute white dog we call Pup who loves kids and a big old cat named Frank.
Both of us have great jobs that are flexible and will allow us to take time off when the baby is born. We both have summers off. Mary is an artist and professor at University of Hawaii and often works at home in her studio. Right now she’s making big weavings out of recycled fishing nets that we’ve pulled out of the ocean. Kate teaches English and Marine Science to juniors at a local high school only10 minutes from home and spends a lot of time photographing and searching the sea for interesting creatures to share with her students.
Things we love and we imagine introducing to our child are the ocean and ocean life, reading, creativity, imagination, curiosity and the importance of following your heart and dreams. We belong to a meditation center and seek to build compassionate connections with ourselves, our community and with other parts of the world.
Openness in an adoption is important to us, as are you and the role you will have in our child’s life.
If you think our family might be the right one for your child, please call us at any time, day or night at 1-877-740-1847 or contact our adoption counselor, Lisa Clark at 1-800-969-6665.
Best Wishes!
