Andrew & Phil

Hello! We are Phil and Andrew and we are excited that one way or another, this letter has found its way to you.  We are a loving family that looks forward to growing in size. The range of emotions you must be feeling as you consider the next steps must feel overwhelming. We admire your bravery in making the choice to find the right family and also know that whatever you decide will be the best for you as well as your child. We hope we give you a sense of who we are and the warm, loving, supportive family we strive to be.

We’re a same-sex couple with progressive values and a desire to be considered one of the most fun families in California J. We met in 2005 and dated for 7 years before tying the knot in 2012 in front of our incredible, supportive family and friends. Call us crazy but we could not naturally procreate. So instead, we fully invested ourselves in learning about, and valuing, the process of adoption, leading us down the path to completing the adoption of our son Jonathan in 2016.

Phil loves life and you can see it in any of his passions. He’s a chiropractor professionally, bringing healthcare to the musculoskeletal system. Phil loves to be outdoors, whether that is hiking along kid-friendly coastal trails or doing nature walks up in the hills, walking through fun areas of San Francisco streets on quests to find the best ice cream spots or taking care of his outdoor succulent collection. He’s got a local sister who’s his best friend and an extremely loving and supportive family. Traveling is another of his favorites—no matter if it is to a nearby city for apple picking, a little further to the Sierras for some ski lessons, or internationally for some pyramid viewing in Mexico or pasta sampling in Italy. He’s been told he’s a good listener and that he gives great advice.

Andrew is an artist at heart who has studied art throughout his life. He fondly remembers his time in college as a summer camp counselor planning craft projects for children as well as the times where he spent his weekends doing art therapy with children at Shriner’s hospital in Sacramento. He currently works in downtown San Francisco, managing a marketing team for Amazon where he gets to utilize his creative skills in branding and advertising. When not working, Andrew enjoys spending time with his large extended Filipino family where there is bound to be a celebration to attend throughout the year with plenty of food, fun, and socializing.

Jonathan is a social and active 5-year-old. Needless to say, he loves attending all the family parties. He is great with other children, and looks forward to the day where he can fill the role of big brother. Jonathan loves our weekend trips to museums, parks, picnics on the beach, and the occasional out-of-town extended vacations. He appreciates when we make learning the alphabet and writing his name fun through games. Creative time is also a household norm. He says his favorite thing about this past weekend was creating a whole underwater scene in the living room, complete with a submarine made from cardboard and cray paper strung from the ceiling to mimic seaweed.

We reside in Brisbane, California and enjoy the small town feel, with easy access to hiking trails, a playground across the street, friendly neighbors, highly-rated schools, and no traffic! And all of this just one exit south of San Francisco. Typical weekends include waking up, making some fruit smoothies and pancakes for breakfast, and then heading up to San Francisco for the farmers market to buy our groceries for the week, trying a new kid-friendly restaurant, or playing soccer at Crissy Field. When we get home we usually unwind over fun card and board games, ending the day with a homemade dinner together followed by our nightly ritual of bath time, teeth brushing, story time and reflections of our favorite parts of the day.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and for considering us as adoptive parents to your child. Your child will grow up understanding that the adoption plan you made was done out of courage and love. We assure you that your child will thrive in a loving and fun home and will always have a connection to you because of our firm belief in open adoption. We look forward to learning more about you and your dreams for your child. If you would like to talk to us, we would love to hear from you. You can reach us anytime toll-free at 1-888-606-0072 or via email at phil.andrew.1@gmail.com. You can also contact us through our adoption counselors, Lisa Clark or Sharon Meyers, at 1-800-969-6665. We hope to hear from you soon. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
