Bhavna and Vinayak

Hello—we’re Bhavna and Vinayak. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. Your strength and thoughtfulness in considering adoption for your baby is awe-inspiring. We hope this letter gives you a meaningful glimpse into our lives and the loving, supportive home we hope to provide your child.

We met in college in 2000 and quickly formed a strong bond over shared interests. Though our careers took us in different directions—Bhavna to Yale, Vinayak to Sweden—we maintained a steady long-distance relationship until we married in 2008, surrounded by family and friends. Today, we live in Berkeley, California. Over the years our bond has grown stronger through shared adventures and support for each other through thick and thin.

Our golden retriever Joocy is a big part of our family—he loves people (children in particular), swimming, and cheese! Over the years, we’ve also fostered rescue dogs, and our home is always full of love and wagging tails. We’re close with our extended family, including many nieces and nephews we’ve helped teach to ski, swim, go camping and just have fun. While we’ve dreamed of growing our family, we haven’t been able to do so biologically. Adoption feels like a natural and meaningful next step to both of us, and we’re excited to welcome a child into our hearts and home.`
About Bhavna

Bhavna was raised in a close-knit, multigenerational family. She loves creating a warm home through cooking, gardening, crafts, and hosting picnics for friends. She’s an ardent animal lover and volunteers with local dog rescues. When not doing those, you will find her hiking or doing dog sports like agility with Joocy. In winter, she shares her love of skiing with Vinayak. Bhavna works from home in a technical role at Facebook, which allows for flexibility and balance. She’s excited to share her love of creativity, animals, and the outdoors with a child.

About Vinayak

Vinayak grew up on a military training campus, where he learned to ride horses, sail, and long-distance swim. He now runs a tech startup that builds sensors for self-driving cars. He’s outgoing, social, and loves hosting friends, cooking, and learning new things—like swing dancing! He can’t wait to pass on his curiosity and adventurous spirit as a dad.
Our Home & Community

We’ve lived in our home in the Berkeley Hills for 17 years, surrounded by redwoods, friendly neighbors, and amazing views of the San Francisco Bay. It’s a peaceful, diverse, and family-friendly area with great schools and parks. Our extended families are very supportive and excited about our plan to adopt a child.

We believe deeply in the value of open adoption. We’ve seen its beauty and strength through close friends who’ve walked this path before us. We’re committed to honoring and celebrating your role in your child’s life. Your child will always know their story, heritage, language and grow up with pride in who they are.
