Brandi

Hi! My name is Brandi!

I am grateful you are taking the time to read my letter. I cannot imagine the difficult decision that you are faced with. Know that I admire your courage and without even knowing you, have great admiration for you. Hopefully, this letter will give you an idea of who I am and the life I look forward to sharing with a child.

My entire life I have wanted to be a parent, perhaps we can relate that sometimes life does not always turn out the way we plan.  However, I can say that I have so much love, joy, and support in my life that I look forward to sharing with a child, and I am hopeful that adoption will allow me to start my family.  I love to laugh and am very caring and dedicated to the people in my life. Although I have a wonderful life, I have always felt that it is missing a child to share it with.  When I was in high school and college, I was lucky enough to be an integral part of my younger cousin’s childhood.  Watching them grow into adults, and witnessing their various stages of life, has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.  I know this feeling will be even more rewarding with my child.

I currently live in Danville, CA a wonderful small town in the East Bay.  When I made the decision to pursue adoption, I kept my future child at the forefront of every decision I made.  I wanted to live in a safe, family friendly neighborhood with the absolute best schools.  As it turns out, Danville has exceeded my expectations.  My neighborhood is very safe, social, and full of small children. We often have block parties, backyard get togethers and baseball games in the cul-da-sac.  I smile at watching all the kids play and look forward to having my future child join in the fun. One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to walk my dog Hank, from my house into town, and go to the farmers market to get fresh food for the week.  Hank is 10 years old and is very used to being around children.  He especially loves it when they are throwing a ball in my back yard for him to fetch.

Recently, I remodeled my home, and was very intentional of having a child in mind with these changes.  I made sure the bathroom had a child friendly bathtub, the floors and furniture were kid friendly, the pool has a child safety pool cover, and the lawn was big enough for a child to enjoy the outdoors and play with Hank.

Family and friends are very important to me.  So important that my mom bought the house across the street from me because she wants to be involved in her grandchild’s life.  When I was young, I had a wonderful relationship with my grandparents, and I am so grateful my child will have the opportunity to be just as close with my mom.  She has already started talking about turning her office into a playroom for her future grandchild. She even has a small play table picked out for the room. Her home has an attached 1 bedroom in-law-unit that we have discussed using for additional childcare and support, if needed.

I have been lucky enough to spend a lot of my time at my aunt’s cattle ranch nearby.  This is where I learned the importance of being outside and hard work.  We often gather with friends and family at the ranch for holidays and long weekends.  My cousin’s all have growing families and I look forward to having my own child at the ranch running around playing with their children.

I also have many close, longtime, friends in the area with young children.  We often have gatherings where we play games outside, cook new recipes and have movie nights.  I have been fortunate enough to travel the world with both my friends and family and I cannot wait to have my child join us!  My best friends, a husband-and-wife couple live locally, and have a toddler.  We have already discussed how we would like our children to spend lots of time together.  Although I’m single, I also understand the importance of having my child exposed to both genders and know these friends and my fully family and community, will be very helpful in this regard.

I have worked for the same company for over 20 years and now lead a group of 100+ financial advisors.  I started there right out of college and have worked my way up to my current position.  My work has given me the financial resources I have today, and at this point in my career I also have a great deal flexibility.  This is very important to me so I can be there for all the important items of a child’s life.  Anything from first steps to school drop offs and pick-ups.  Although, my mom hopes I will still have days in the office as she wants to make sure she has plenty of time with the baby!  The people I work with are a second family.  We often get together outside of work, travel together, and watch each other’s children.  Recently a co-worker and I watched another co-worker’s 2 young girls.  We spent the evening handmaking pasta.  It was so much fun to see the girls use their hands and have fun kneading and making the pasta.  Watching the world through the eyes of a child is something that brings me a great amount of joy.

I could not be more excited about growing my family through adoption.  I assure you that your child will have a full life in a loving and fun home.  I will ensure this child has the best education, experiences, family, and support that anyone could hope for.  Often, I’ve heard people say that you need to focus on your weaknesses to become better.  However, I believe it is the opposite and you should focus on your positives.  This is something I hope to instill in my child and let them experience life and discovering new things in their own special way, all within boundaries. I firmly believe in the benefits of open adoption and want you to know that you will always be an honored and valued person on our lives, and I look forward to sharing whatever level of a relationship that feels best to you.

Thank you and I wish you nothing but the very best.
