Chris and Dan

Hi! We’re Chris and Dan.

We appreciate your courage and strength in considering adoption for your baby, and we know this is a decision made in love. Thank you for reading this letter and we hope it will help you get to know us.

We have been together for 13 years and married for nine. Chris’s best friend introduced us. After getting to know each other as friends, Dan asked Chris out on a date. We quickly realized how much we love each other. We are settled into our careers and home, and we are ready to grow our family. In addition to the two of us, we have Bina, a gentle and sweet 14 year-old cat.

Chris is soft-spoken and appreciated for his steady thoughtfulness by his colleagues and friends. He works at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco teaching music to kids ages 7-13, and plays the organ for services and concerts, there and around the city. In addition to music, he loves family traditions, baking, home improvement and gardening, and exploring the outdoors by cycling, skiing, hiking, and camping.

Dan is a funny, loving, and family-oriented guy. He is a marriage and family counselor in private practice, working partly from home and partly in San Francisco. He is a California native from San Diego, and grew up loving reading and spending time outdoors. He loves learning about people and their feelings, and other cultures. He studied History at UCLA and did education abroad in China and Scotland. He loves spending time with and visiting his sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends near and far.

Our extended family lives in California and Oregon. They have taught us so much about being parents, and are eager to get to know our new baby. We already have 11 nieces and nephews, and we love having fun with them: playing with legos, talking about Star Wars, going out for boba or sushi, and playing board games and video games. We have love and support pouring in from all over.

We own a house in a beautiful, quiet area of Richmond, just north of Berkeley. Our house has a shady front yard with blueberry bushes, and a grassy backyard perfect for play. An elementary school, parks, tasty cafes, and an ice cream shop are all in walking distance. It’s a close-knit neighborhood with a mix of young families and retired folks. We love Halloween here!

Traditions are big in our family, whether around holidays, game nights, or special days out. We look forward to teaching our little one these routines as our parents did. We love to make each other laugh and smile. We enjoy working on home and garden projects, cooking and eating out, exploring the nature of the Bay Area, and shows and concerts in the city. We regularly travel to a special place for making childhood memories- our family’s cabin on the Oregon Coast. It’s where we were married and have spent many vacations and holidays there over the years.

We look forward to our child having all the rich experiences of early life, from being in nature and playing in parks, trying new foods, going to fun cultural events in our area, spending time with friends nearby, and connecting with important people and places from our lives.

We are supportive of open adoption and hope for regular connection. We are dedicated to you having the relationship you want with your baby. We promise to love this child unconditionally, with patience, understanding, and safety. We won’t be afraid to talk about feelings. We will teach the values of staying safe, loving family, learning, and animals and nature. We will surround him or her with loving family members and friends who have pledged to be there throughout their entire lifetime.

We are grateful for you taking the time to read about our family and consider entrusting us to be this little one’s loving parents. If we are the right family for you, we look forward to your call and getting to know you more.
