Find adoptive parents in Hawaii

Heading1

If you have decided to make an adoption plan for your baby you may be wondering how to find the right adoptive family.

With so much information on the internet (good and bad) we know it can be overwhelming to begin this search online.

It is important to know that many of the online waiting family hubs who may be targeting women in Hawaii are not licensed agencies, or even local.

We want to empower you to get connected to a social worker at a licensed agency in Hawaii to help you through this process who will be your true advocate.

Adoption laws vary state by state so it is always best to talk to a local agency to get an understanding of your rights. And we are here to support you as a local agency in Hawaii, who is culturally connected.

We’ve led the way in open adoption in Hawaii for over 30 years

A couple cool things to know about us: we have been the leaders in open adoption in Hawaii.

We are a local agency who has always believed in open adoption and advocating for women. We have seen birth families and adoptive families have open adoptions for more than 30 years….long before it was the norm.

10 or 20 years ago when most birth families were only getting updates through letters and pictures, we helped support birth families and adoptive families coordinate face to face visits so birth families got to enjoy watching their children grow up before their eyes.

They spent time together at parks, zoos and fun events, getting to know each other and creating an extended ohana.  Over the years, things have continued to move in that direction.

While we see that this type of relationship isn’t for everyone, we are proud to be leaders in open communication and empowering women, and couples, to keep in touch with their children in a way that feels the most comfortable for them.

We help women in Hawaii to choose the right adoptive family for their child

One thing that we see in a good match between an expectant parent, or birth parent, and prospective adoptive family, are similarities.

When you have things in common, there is a basis for a relationship or a commonality that provides strong foundations for your child.

Think about your hobbies or values.

  • Do you want a family who has similar hobbies or values?

  • Do you want a family makeup that is similar or really different from how you were raised?

  • Maybe you grew up with a lot of cousins and loved that experience, maybe you were raised by a single mom and really value your closeness with her, or maybe you like the idea of choosing two dads or two moms.

  • Do you want a local family, outer island family or one on the mainland?

  • Is ethnicity or religion important to you?

  • And also openness. It is important to be connected to a family who is on the same page as you are regarding the level of contact you hope to have with your child.

Post Adoption Contact Agreements (PACAs)

This is a term that refers to the details of contact that you have agreed upon with the family you have chosen to adopt your child. Those details are written up into an agreement that everyone signs.

Sometimes people choose to have a Post Adoption Contact Agreement (PACA).  because they haven’t had enough time to get to know the adoptive family, sometimes they want one to help clarify expectations, and sometimes the extra layer of protection helps you feel confident that everyone is on the same page about keeping in touch.

Not all states have PACAs. For example, California does, and Hawaii doesn’t

Although Hawaii doesn’t have legally binding PACAs, we can help you create an informal, or non-legally-binding written agreement.

If you are more comfortable having it be legally binding, you could choose a California family and then it can become part of the court adoption record and legally binding.

We are licensed in both Hawaii and California and can help coordinate all aspects of those adoptions.

“You didn’t pressure me into anything.

You held my hand all the way through the process and made sure I knew everything about placing my child for adoption.

I am forever grateful for your agency.”

- Birth mother

“Well, I chose Adopt International because the awesome family I chose to be my birth daughter’s adoptive parents were already working with y’all, and when I met with y’all myself, you were so pro birth parent, understanding, and down to Earth in a situation that was straight up madness.

I have love, love, loved being in contact with y’all over time and seeing that you really do care, just like you showed me over a decade ago!”
