Kathleen & Vu

Vu and Kathleen

Hello, we are Vu & Kathleen. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We know you have a lot to think about and have important decisions to make for yourself and your child, and we greatly admire your strength and selflessness during this time. It is our hope that this letter gives you a glimpse of who we are and the family we could be for your child.

We have been married since 2015 and live in a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood in Concord, California, about 30 miles east of San Francisco. Vu is head of customer success for a vacation rental software company. He was raised in Concord by his single mother and 6 older siblings who emigrated from Vietnam in the late 1970s. Vu gets along very well with people, easily making friends wherever he goes. His family is very excited to add on to the grandchildren count (currently at 14). In his spare time, Vu likes to do home improvement projects, watch sports and is a baseball cap collector. Kathleen works for a county health department, managing health insurance contracts. She is the only child of Filipino immigrants who live very close by and who look forward to another grandchild. Kathleen grew up with many cousins and friends. She is naturally very organized, detail-oriented and always thinks of others’ well-being before herself. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoys reading as well as looking for and trying new recipes.

Open adoption was always our first choice for starting a family, due to potential health risks in becoming pregnant, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We have a beautiful son named Corey, who we adopted at birth in 2018. Corey is a strong, vibrant toddler who loves dinosaurs and anything with wheels. He is always asking, “What’s that?” and “Why?” and it is a joy to watch his curiosity flourish. He loves to tickle and wrestle, yet also loves to snuggle, especially right before bedtime. We have a good and open relationship with Corey’s birthparents, have visits with them, and have set up for them a private Instagram account that we regularly update with photos and videos of Corey.

We are excited to expand our family and look forward to creating many more family memories in our mini dance parties at home, storytimes and cooking & baking sessions. We also love to travel and try new foods and experiences. Our last vacation was a 7-day cruise to Mexico, where Corey was a ring bearer for his godmother’s wedding. He had so much fun exploring the ship and eating a fruit popsicle at every port! We look forward to resuming our  annual Disneyland trips. We also enjoy exploring locally and frequently visit parks, museums and the Oakland Zoo. Corey loves to play in the sand so we go to the beach often when weather allows. We also very much enjoy spending time with our loved ones. We have family and friends within an hour drive, and we also travel regularly to southern California, Las Vegas and Hawaii to visit more loved ones.

Just like with Corey and with a foundation of our Catholic faith, we want our child to know that he/she is unconditionally loved, that he/she shouldn’t be afraid to take chances, and that all we ask for is his/her best efforts and intentions in life. We hope to share with our child as many life experiences as possible and want our child to be humbled and awed by the diversity surrounding him/her, just as we were raised.
