If you are considering adoption, having clear information about what the process involves can help you feel more prepared and confident in your decisions. Adoption is only one of several options available to you, and considering adoption doesn’t mean you’re making a final choice, there is no obligation to continue unless it feels right for you and your baby.

To help you make an informed decision, today we’re going to explain what typically happens when you first contact an adoption agency, the support available during and after your pregnancy, and how you can find adoptive parents if you choose to move forward.

1) What happens when you first contact an adoption agency?

When you first reach out to the team at Adopt International, our conversation is usually focused on explaining the process and answering your questions. This initial contact is confidential and does not commit you to choosing adoption. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with and take as much time as you need to understand your options.

An experienced member of our team will explain how the adoption process works, what types of support are available, and what choices are available to you. You will also learn about counseling services, medical and financial support, and legal guidance that can help you make informed decisions. At this stage, the purpose is education and support rather than making any final plans.

2) Understanding the adoption process during pregnancy

Women who are considering adoption work with an adoption agency to create an adoption plan. This plan outlines your preferences and choices and can change during your pregnancy as your needs and feelings evolve. It may include the type of adoption you are considering, the level of contact you would like with the adoptive family, and what support you would like during pregnancy and after birth.

Throughout the pregnancy, you remain in control of your choices. The adoption plan is designed to reflect what feels right for you and to ensure that your wishes are respected throughout the process. You can adjust your adoption plan, pause the process, or explore other options at any stage.

Our team will also offer access to counseling and guidance to help you understand your options, along with information about medical care and practical assistance related to your pregnancy.

3) How to find adoptive parents and make your choice

If you decide to explore adoption, we can help you find adoptive parents by providing profiles of families who are hoping to adopt. These profiles include information about their home life, values, and reasons for wanting to grow their family.

You can review these profiles at your own pace, ask questions, and decide what feels right for you and your child. There is no requirement to choose a family quickly, and your preferences guide the process. Working with our professional team helps ensure that all steps are handled safely and legally, and that your comfort and wishes remain central to every decision.

Adopt International is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting expectant mothers throughout every step of the adoption journey. We provide compassionate guidance, reliable resources, and personalized support so every decision is informed and made with care.
